Cleaning and disinfectant chemicals manufacturer upgrades to N25 model to meet stringent traceability requirements  .

When it needed to upgrade an old printer to meet increasingly stringent traceability requirements, leading cleaning and disinfectant chemicals manufacturer, RP Adam Ltd chose a newly launched ‘N’ series continuous inkjet printer (CIJ) from Needham Coding Ltd (+44 (0) 114 2570007; www.needham-coding.com), part of The Needham Group which also comprises Needham Inks Ltd.

Selkirk-based RP Adam is using the coding and marking specialist’s robust and versatile N25 CIJ system to further enhance traceability by applying up to three lines of vital information – batch number, manufacture date and expiry date – directly on to HDPE and PET bottles.

Needham Coding’s user-friendly, low maintenance N25 CIJ printer is ideal for high speed applications printing one, two or three lines of text, barcodes or graphics, with adjustable print height from 1.5mm up to 12mm, and optional print height from 2mm up to 19mm.

Martin Carroll, Technical Director at RP Adam comments: “We previously purchased ink jet coders and consumables from Sauven which has now transferred the supply of consumables and service and support of its printers to Needham Inks and Needham Coding respectively.

“An increase in capacity put pressure on our old printer so we didn’t look any further than Needham Coding and the newly launched, own brand ‘N’ series CIJ printers. We chose the N25 model for its value for money and ability to print up to three lines of text. It is also extremely easy to use and offers quick and simple changeover.”

The N25 is installed end of line after labels are applied to bottles of cleaning and disinfectant chemicals. It is operating at speeds up to 30 packs per minute.

Martin continues: “The training and commissioning provided by Needham Coding was very helpful and we have experienced few problems with the printer operation. I have received positive feedback from the production team who find the N25 easy to use with minimal operator intervention and good performance. As a result, I would rate the system as excellent for efficiency, reliability and accuracy.”

Providing major cost, performance and environmental benefits, the N25 CIJ printer boasts a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of 40,000 operating hours and uses multi-national character sets, featuring multiple languages and Unicode character printing.

It offers a range of exciting features including CleanStart™ which automatically cleans the printhead eliminating daily and weekly cleaning, and Trupoint™ which provides superior CIJ print quality.

The N25’s On-The-Fly function allows external ink filling in less than a minute with no waste. An Ecotec™ fluid management system reduces solvent consumption and lowers overall cost of ownership while extending the time between solvent additions and filter replacements.

All models in the ‘N’ series provide a true non-contact print operation with the ink thrown from the printhead a minimum ink throw distance of 12mm and up to a maximum distance of 50mm. The controls are housed in an ergonomically designed stainless steel cabinet which is sealed to IP55 standards. A standard 10.4” colour touch screen offers a vivid display with large intuitive buttons and status indicators.

The CodeConnect™ feature boasts integrated USB, RS232, multiple programmable inputs and outputs and optional Ethernet communications enabling network connectivity allowing integration into any applications.

“While it is difficult to quantify the increase in production efficiencies since the N25 was installed, we have definitely benefited from being able to print more lines than previously,” Martin adds. “We can’t fault the service and communication from Needham Coding and being able to buy inks for all our coders from a common source is a definite advantage,” he concludes.
